Let Them Get Muddy at Adventure Playground in Huntington Beach! Mud, Water, Rafts and Waterslides!
I'd heard of Adventure Playground in Huntington Beach several times over the last few years, but couldn't quite figure out what it was all about. It may have been confusing to me because I associated it with the very hard to get into Yorba Linda summer camp called "Adventure Playground" or maybe because I heard you needed reservations.. what??? Well, now I have been and I have to tell you it is AWESOME!! Let me break it down for you. Adventure Playground in Huntington Beach is a park for children ages 5-12 years old run by the City of Huntington Beach for only two months during summer. You pay $3 per child (adults are free) and you can stay all day. Reservations are needed for groups of 10+ children. Reservations are not required for families and groups with less than 10 kids. I recommend not going on fridays due to the number of field trip groups that come on fridays. If you have to go on a friday don't worry. We went on a friday and it was crowded but the lines for the activities go fast and there's enough for everyone to do.
It is a MUDDY, WET, DIRTY, Good Time! Kids have access to a fort building area where they can hammer and nail to their hearts content, a makeshift waterslide ending in a huge mud puddle, a rope bridge, and rafts they can push themselves around on with a long pole. It was so much fun and the best part about it is they get to get muddy and dirty without anyone telling them not to!
I would recommend you bring towels, a change of clothes, a bag to bring home wet clothes and shoes in, extra shoes or flip flops to wear home, chairs, lunch or snacks, and handsanitizer if you plan to eat lunch there. You can bring food and coolers in and they have a little snack shack where you can buy soda, chips, candy etc. There's plenty of shade to park your chairs under. Kids must wear completely enclosed sneakers, no water shoes, flip flops, etc.

Adventure Playground in Huntington Beach is located at 7111 Talbert Ave. in Central Park. Near the Central Library. I took the 22 West, Exit Goldenwest (go south) and Central Park and the Library will be on your left. Park by the trees and walk up the hill.
