The Learn to Swim (LTS) program at Cal State Fullerton promotes a safe and fun swim environment where children feel comfortable learning and developing their water skills. Learn to Swim is a water safety/group swim instruction program certified by the American Red Cross. Children 6 months old and up can participate in the Learn to Swim program. Adult classes are also available, as well as private and semi-private lessons. (657) 278-PLAY.


SUMMER SESSIONS - (Time Slots Vary Depending on Session )
Classes are 30 minutes

Session 1: June 13-24th (M-F) All classes meet 10 times and cost $65. Ages 3mths+

Session 2: June 18 - Aug 13th (Sat. Only) All classes meet 8 times and cost $52. Ages 3mths+
*Please note there is no class on Saturday, July 2nd or Monday, July 4th.

Session 3: June 27 - July 8th (M-F) All classes meet 9 times and cost $58. Ages 3mths+

Session 4: July 11- July 22nd (M-F) All classes meet 10 times and cost $65. Ages 3mths+

Session 5: July 25 - Aug 5th (M-F) All classes meet 10 times and cost $65. Ages 3mths+

YOUTH SWIM LESSON CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Parent & Child: (ages 6 months-3 years) Children must be at least 6 months old to enroll. A parent or guardian is required to accompany each child in the water and participate in the classes. This class is designed to help infants and toddlers become comfortable in and around the water with a parent or guardian. The class teaches parents techniques to help orient their children to water activities in a safe manner. This class is NOT designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own. Skills include: blowing bubbles, kicking, holding onto the wall, floating on front and back, and water safety skills. Swim Diapers must be worn by all children and must be provided by the parent/guardian.

Tiny Tots: (ages 3-4 years) This class is designed for children who submerge in the water reluctantly, not at all or require floatation support at all times. Designed to help children become independent in the water, this class teaches introductory swimming skills such as bobbing, kicking, floating on front and back and underwater exploration. Ratio is 5:1.

Level 1: (ages 5+) Little to no experience in the water; can begin to perform basic water movement, including gliding, kicking, arm movement, and floating on front and back. Skills include: water adjustment, bobbing, blowing bubbles, kicking, floating on front and back, gliding, and combined leg and arm actions on front. Ratio is 6:1.

Level 2: (ages 5+) Some experience in the water; can push off wall and kick; comfortable placing face in water and floating on front or back with assistance. Skills include: floating on front and back, gliding, combined leg and arm actions on front and back. Ratio is 6:1.

Level 3: (ages 5+) Can push off wall and perform the front stroke and backstroke for 10ft without assistance. Skills include: front crawl, backstroke, side breathing, and elementary backstroke. Ratio is 6:1.

Level 4: (ages 5+) Ability to swim 25 yards front stroke w/side breathing and backstroke; familiarity with elementary backstroke. Skills include: front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke. Ratio is 8:1.

Level 5: (ages 5+) Ability to swim 25 yards of front stroke and backstroke; 15 yards of butterfly, breaststroke, and sidestroke. Skills include: endurance: front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke; and front flip turns. Ratio is 10:1.

Level 6: (ages 5+) Ability to swim 50 yards of front stroke and backstroke; 25 yards of butterfly, breaststroke, and sidestroke. Skills include: endurance: front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke; and front and back flip turns, and open turns. Ratio is 10:1.

Location & Parking: Most swim lessons will occur at the KHS Pool unless otherwise noted. Parking passes will be provided for swim lessons that occur during the weekday. No passes are needed to park on campus on the weekends. Parking is available at the Dumbo Downs lot adjacent to the Student Recreation Center.


REGISTRATION
Registrations must be received the Wednesday prior to the start date of the next session and spaces are limited so sign up early. Payments may be made on-line or in person at the Recreation Services Desk, located on the 2nd floor of the Student Recreation Center. Please note that we are not able to process registrations on the pool deck. At the time of registration, please establish the parent/guardian as the account holder and then you will have the option to add your dependents to your profile.
